About Dún Laoghaire Pier

Dún Laoghaire Pier is 200 years old this year! Since the first stone slab was laid in 1817, people have sauntered, ambled, paraded, perambulated, strode, marched, loitered, trudged and stepped out on the famous East and West Piers. It is a bracing walk as the West Pier is 1 mile long and the East Pier is ¾ of a mile.
People from all over the world and from all walks of life, including famous politicians, royals and celebrities have embarked and disembarked at the ferry terminals. Many thousands of Irish people have joined the diaspora from these shores, seeking employment and brighter opportunities abroad, and many happily took the boat back to Ireland for their holidays or to return permanently when times were better.
More than a million people walk the pier annually and they choose this spot for their outings for many special occasions as well as for a daily constitutional! Holy communions, birthdays, first dates, walking the dog, a Sunday stroll, hanging out with friends, taking the air, engagements, weddings, and baby’s first day out have all been captured on camera at this iconic location. Now, we’re asking you to share these precious memories with us.
